Critical Reflection

How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?

My product uses typical conventions of a thriller. My product uses conventions such as fast-paced clips, moments of tension and fear. These conventions helped me create a successful piece and helped me and the audience link my piece to a thriller.

My piece represented social groups such as the 15+ age group as it was rated an age 15 using the BBFC guidelines. This, therefore, meant that we had an advantage as we stuck to the guidelines, making our piece as interesting and as information-packed as possible, whilst following guidelines.

My piece also represented the effects of crime, and the effect crime has on an individual. My piece also represents mystery as it was unknown who the murderer was throughout the piece, this, therefore, brought shock to the audience when they found out the killer, therefore having an element of surprise in the piece.

One thing that challenged conventions is the opening of my piece, at the very start of the piece, upbeat music can be heard, this challenges conventions as this would not typically be seen in a traditional thriller, this, therefore, challenges conventions although our piece still follows the conventions of a thriller and is overall, a thriller.

To conclude, I did a few things that challenged conventions, although overall, I created a successful thriller opening.

How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?

How did your production skills develop throughout this project?

How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?

In this project, my group and I used various different devices, software and hardware.

My group filmed our piece using an iPhone camera

We then downloaded the clips from the phone to our MacBook where we edited the piece.

During the filming of our piece, we used various different pieces of equipment.

To start, we used a big microphone that was placed above the actors at all time

My group also used smaller microphones for the actors to have on their chests to capture all the audio.

We integrated these technologies to successfully create our piece and to successfully create the codes and conventions.
